Episode 3 – Psychology and the Social Work Profession Mr. Maanda Nkhumeleni

The PsySSA SD Multidisciplinary subcommittee have hosted their third episode in a podcast series of related topics in Psychology. Episode 3 addresses many questions surrounding the interaction of Social Workers and Psychologists.

The Social Work profession is a crucial profession in a multitude of helping professions that encourages positive social change. It is a profession that aims to empower and liberate people and promotes healthy problem solving in relationships. Social Workers’ specialty is in analysing social problems and helping those affected to overcome them, in identifying the social pressures and needs in a community, and in employing existing resources or establishing those that might be lacking to solve social problems.

Social Workers work closely with many professionals from different disciplines including psychologists, so where do these two professions intersect? How do they differ? How valuable is one to the other? These are just some of the questions to be addressed in this episode.
