Dear Colleagues,

I hope you are well, safe and healthy.

We have come to the end of yet another tenure while in the last quarter of the year. In 2021, we have had to balance (new) normality versus contrasting a world we never thought would escalate so quickly before our eyes. Promoting development in the medium of education, the profession and society at large whilst highlighting psychology within the 4th Industrial Revolution.

The SD has grown immensely; having expanded our membership and our reach.

We have, therefore, taken leaps and bounds in providing for our members in various forms such as the SD website which will serve as an invaluable resource for students in the years to come.

Even though Covid-19 has taken so much away from us, it did not take away our ability to network. We have expanded on  provincial, national and global levels.

We have increased the reach of our National Mentorship Programme, Community Development Subcommittee, improved our digital foot print while actively establishing the Research Into Student Empowerment and Frequently Asked Questions Portfolios, developing our Multidisciplinary and Transformation Subcommittees through various events that can be seen on our website.

I look forward to seeing the growth of the Division in the hope that we not only make a difference to Psychology but to Society as a whole.

As the sun sets on this tenure and a new dawn rises, the SD leadership will be elected for 2022 – 2023Therefore, I officially invite all PsySSA Student Division Members and leadership, PsySSA Council and Executive Members  to transact the business of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for the 10th of November 2021.

I am pleased to announce that at the AGM we will confer our annual Divisional awards such as the PsySSA Student of the Year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the PsySSA Council, Executive and Office in assisting us with ensuring that this tenure was a success.

To my PsySSA Student Division Executive Committee, thank you for completing and enduring the journey with me even when days were tough. The leadership within the Division has excelled in delivering a Division that is relevant, responsive and robust.

I implore all those who will be moving into their various spaces of the working world to remember the struggle of the student and to be professionals who give back not only to Students but to the Society at large.

Finally, as this is my last address to you as  Chairperson of PsySSA Student Division, I thank our members for their continued support, none of the Division’s success would have been possible without you.
I hope that the Student Division continues to grow from strength to strength. Highlighting and Promoting the voice and space of Students.
Take up space. Be heard. Reimagine the future. A Luta Continua.
